John Harvey Ariail Sr

John Harvey Ariail Sr. came from Connecticut to this very area in South Carolina in 1795. He was working for Harts and Wright from Petersburg Virginia. His job was apparently buying and selling lots and land for them in a new town called Rockville South Carolina. Read the historical marker for complete details. John Ariail then got into trouble with his land dealings and attorneys were hired to track him down and resolve the issue. He in the meantime for reasons unknown had went back to Connecticut where he married Chloe Climelia Ives and fathered one son. He and his family along with his brother Manna Rich Ariail and a cousin of Chloe came back to South Carolina. John then bought some land and farmed it for the rest of his life. He probably owned a pub and was heavily involved in many of the functions of his community.
