In that battle, he was fighting against his cousin, Phinehas Dunham from the Minnesota Regiment. Phinehas was also wounded and died from his wounds. He is interred in the Minnesota Regiment Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. When John Milton Ariail returned home, he married the widow Northy, raised her children, and fathered 6 children of his own. It is said that one of the things that Northy always said was “I don’t owe nobody nothing”. Right picture is of the marker for John Milton Ariail. These are foot markers.
